"Unless you've been living in a cave, you've probably been to see "Avatar" by now and are presumably aware that James Cameron's epic has been breaking box office records globally. In Australia, it's now up to $75m, surpassing the previous record set by another Cameron feature "Titianic". Globally, "Avatar" has now grossed $1.7b and is even at this relatively early stage the 2nd biggest grossing movie of all time (again, after "Titanic", which did $1.8b).
What you may not know is that while all this has being going on, Activisions multi-platform game "Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2" has reached $1b worldwide, which would make it the 5th largest release of all time if it was a movie (just behind "Dark Knight"). This is all a sure sign that the gaming market is a mature one and very much in the mainstream of contemporary entertainment and leisure - worth $2b in Australia in 2009. A couple more stats: 88% of Australian homes have a gaming platform (PC, XBox, Wii, PS3, etc), the average age of a gamer is 30 and 46% of gamers are female.
Here at MediaCom, P&G have conducted a successful in-game advertising (IGA) campaign with great (measured brand) results and we are currently putting together a most excellent and sophisticated campaign for Dell's Alienware brand. Watch this space!"
